I like apps as much as the next person, but it really has to do something cool to keep my attention. There are several apps to capture pictures like Shminstagram and you can even edit the pictures and caption them. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I say it’s worth even more when you can add audio!

Enter SocialCafe an iPhone app that enables you to add up to 5 minutes of audio to your photographs. I’ll start by saying the only downfall I found with SocialCafe is that I’m an Android girl and so far it’s only available on iOS. I have little experience with iOS, but that being said, this app is extremely easy to use.

After the initial install, I was also asked to either create or use a Dropbox account. I tried to create it, but I guess I had an account so signed in. I like that SocialCafe works with Dropbox so that all my pictures are backed up in several places.

Right away I was given the option to learn how to use SocialCafe with a walkthrough. I skipped it, but I do think it’s beneficial to show you the basics, though if you’re like me you can easily figure out how to use everything by playing around with it. You can take a new picture or use any from your camera roll.SC

I snapped a picture of my cat Mo who was still slightly shaken and a little more than slightly annoyed with me for giving him a bath. I selected the wrench icon and was able to add a title and description to my picture. I then selected the microphone icon and was able to add audio to the picture. I recorded a few times to get it right and then saved it to my Dropbox.MoBaths

When I had everything the way I wanted, I selected the arrow icon and was given the option to share with Facebook, Twitter, or email. Because I was using my husband’s phone, when I shared with Twitter it went to his account, oops! I signed him out and myself in and shared again. I also sent my photo with audio to my email.

See my creation here: What Mo thinks after a bath.

I think SocialCafe is a lot of fun and I can see myself doing many pet voiceovers with their photos. What pictures would you like to add audio to?

Wow cool app. There are so many out there that only halfway work or only do a few things. This looks like the total package. Poor kitty looks mad about the bath situation. I have to check this out for my phone!

  2. Very cool app. I know my daughters will love this. Your kitty sure didn’t seem happy 🙂

  3. I’ve never heard of the SocialCafe app! I love the freedom to do voiceovers. Voiceovers for pets would be so much fun!!! I can think of a handful of one-liners I could give to photos of our pets already! Particularly one of my Chocolate Lab making an absurd face! Thanks for sharing.

  5. Aww that poor kitty he looks just like how my Salem does when I give him a bath. Sounds like a pretty cool app that I’ve never heard of. Pet voiceovers are so freaking funny I think.

  6. Such a cool app! I’m an iPhone girl so I’ll have it to check it out. I take tons of photos of my kids and dogs and would love to be able to add audio to them. I can think of some pretty funny ways to use this!

Thank you for the nice article. I also appreciate the considerate comments as well. I hadn’t thought of using it for pet voiceovers before – what a cool use of the app!

It took a lot of work to put out the SocialCafe and it makes me happy when people find it useful.

If you continue to find it useful and you have a moment, I would love to get a review/rating from all users on the App Store. It is hard to get the ball rolling with so many other apps out there 🙂

    Thanks,

    Scott
