Valentine’s Day Memories

Jake hasn’t done Valentine’s for his class in several years. It’s only one of a long list of things that we used to do together that I truly miss. We had fun picking out what type of cards to hand out. I know we did super heroes several times and Jimmy Neutron at least once. We would try and pick the coolest kind of candy to attach to the cards. I’m partial to the conversation hearts, but Jake liked suckers.

We would spread out on the table and go through his list of classmates one by one. Jake would tell me if a card was appropriate for a girl. He was always a little worried it might say the wrong thing. This was of course before he had any interest in girls.

It was always fun to see the creative cards he brought back too. Some parents went all out and did handmade cards. I’m totally not that crafty.

My Grandma used to send each of us grand kids a personalized handmade Valentine every year, but she had to quit when there were too many of us including great-grand kids.

Richard and I don’t have any specific traditions for Valentine’s Day. If we have extra money then we might get each other a gift, but generally it’s just another day. I do remember six or seven years ago he got me a vacuum as a present. Everyone was horrified! Except me. I had really wanted a new vacuum and he got me a good one. We still laugh about it.

If you’re still looking for an present, make sure you look for awesome Valentine’s Day coupons too.

  1. We just do the Valentine’s with the kids. This year I made some other things, but it’s not a tradition yet.

  2. My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but I always get something for the boys. Plus, they pick out their little valentine’s for their classmates at school. We actually have to write them out this week.
