Why I Don’t Watch Vampire Diaries

I used to read a ton. Whenever I would get into trouble for something, my parents wouldn’t send me to my room. They knew that’s where my books were. So instead they would “ground” me by making me sit in the same room as them, without a book.

I couldn’t even begin to list all the books I read, but right around 14 or 15 I found The Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith. I devoured them. A girl caught between two vampire brothers in a town full of mystery? Yes, please!

Elena is the main character and she has had some hardships in her life. She lost her parents and lives with a family member. She’s in high school and her friends can tell that she’s different. Stefan floats into town first and Elena is intrigued by his manner. She can easily tell that he’s been hurt in the past. Damon comes to town to find Stefan and immediately causes a rift between Stefan and Elena. Stefan and Damon have been fighting for centuries. Over what? A girl, of course. And now they’re at it again. yeh Elena also has a best friend that is a witch and local guy that would do anything for her.

I love these books and I was pretty excited when I heard they were making a tv show from them.

I watched a few episodes and the excitement was gone.

They completely “Twilightized” the show. Elena resembles Bella from Twilight rather than the blonde haired, blue eyed girl she’s supposed to be. They also added some family members that weren’t in the books. There were some other differences as well.

The show probably isn’t that bad, I’ve heard from some people it’s actually decent, but I was just sad that they changed so much from the books that I knew and loved. I was a little crushed that it had so many changes. I threw down my remote and refused to watch any more. Yes, I can be bratty like that. Maybe I’ll watch it in the future, who knows.

  2. Not to into the Vampire thing. LOL. Our oldest loves to read also so we use to ground her the same way your parents did. Too funny.

  3. Admittedly I read the books after I had watched the TV show but Vampire Diaries is a very good show. Yes, it’s not very similar to the books but it is nothing like Twilight. The first few episodes were a little weak, but once it found it’s stride, it became a great show. Elena is a strong hardheaded character, nothing like the wishy washy, low self esteem-ridden Bella of Twilight. I think the only way you can really critique Vampire Diaries the show is to actually watch more than a few episodes and not try to compare it to the books too much. Think of them as two distinctly different things.

    • That’s definitely true about Bella being wishy washy. I only watched maybe the first three episodes, so I guess I could have given it more of a chance. I was just being a brat. I wanted the show to be exactly like the books, I do realize that’s next to impossible, lol.

Garbage In – Garbage out, I don’t wash this show because it will give Satan the leverage in my life and it does not glorify Christ but rather the dark side! Don’t let Satan absorb your mind! Look towards and fill yourself with the good! GOD BLESS!
