I like smoothies, but I’m particular about the ones I enjoy. The texture has to be just right, I prefer it to be super creamy without chunks of anything in it. The same with my yogurt. I actually have a smoothie blender, but I never remember to use it. There are many kitchen gadgets that have fallen to the same fate.
I recently had the opportunity to try Dole’s Fruit Smoothie Shakers. It’s a fruit and yogurt kit that you add your favorite juice to, shake, and enjoy a smoothie any time of the day. My favorite juice happens to be orange, so that’s what I used with mine. I think it would be good with other types of juice as well. I tried Strawberry Banana, Strawberry, and Mixed Berry.
Following the instructions, you shake the bottle prior to adding the juice just to get everything loosened and ready to go. Add in your juice to the fill line, which is marked and then shake vigorously (hello, who needs a shake weight?). Then you’ve got yourself an easy smoothie.
I liked the strawberry banana and strawberry flavors the best. The mixed berry was ok, but I’m not a big fan of blueberry and that was the dominant flavor. The consistency of all three was good, though I do prefer my smoothies to be a little creamier. Each 11 oz. serving, prepared with 7 oz. of juice is under 200 calories and fat free. I bought reduced sugar juice so there were even less calories in mine. These are definitely easy and I would like to try them with different juices to try the difference in taste. I like that they are good sources of calcium and fiber. I need to make sure to get more of both in my daily routine.
